To Breathe

Today, sixty-five years ago I entered this world backwards with the cord around my neck three times,

Been struck twice by cars,

Survived,

Nearly drowned at ten with my little sister on my shoulders,

Shot at fourteen when I took a loaded gun from my dad,

Died twice from smoke of a fire set by my older half-sister,

Didn’t get my BA because my adviser promised to stand up against Luther College but didn’t,

Have skills,

Had a life of deep sadness,

Lost all those I love because the Christians rather hear lies then see in their hearts who they knew I was,

Godson raced into a burning fire to save strangers, which got her a medal by the Iowan Governor but refused to stand up to my half sister,

My mom’s last five years were spent where she didn’t want to be with two Codeine oacjs aweek placed on our diabetic mom’s back bought over the counter,

Watch the narcississ in your life,

They are never your friend blood or not,

In two twenty I lost my best friend and mom and my babysitter,

Well today is my day,

I will send it as I will,

Not where I want to be but where I am at this moment,

Best advice from me to me keep trying to achieve what you want it matters!
