Mom or as dad called her Mother Marian

Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

All holidays were hard work. Mom forever was blessing us and our holiday table with mouth watering creations.

One year my ex brother in law shit a turkey with his bow. Mom always planned out all the food. We girls assisted mom while dad called sitting in the living room in his chair supervising .

Funny every Christmas when mom and I got down from upstairs all the old favorite Christmas decorations and decorated the tree there was dad in his chair telling us where more decorations needed to go.

Funny he saw it his duty to always hurry us along. After all we were just female. For Christmas mother and I wrapped gifts, dad slept mom would be up most of the night then up early to get the turkey and ham in the oven.

We had cranberry relish(Its really easy and garsh darn so good. One apple not granny Smith. One orange bag of cranberries about two cups. Relish the easiest way to grind them up is in a food processor) and very healthy.

Olives black for fingers. Seven layer salad,Ellen my baby sister always brought green bean onion casserole. Grand rolls that are layered butter and jam in a special bowl.

Mashed potatoes which is best with butter and milk and cream cheese. Mom would candy sweet potatoes. Whip cream and ice cream for pie.Mom would make two pumpkin some times an apple from apples in the fall fixed and froze.

Amish apple pies are the closest to moms. After dinner after dad did his best to act like he did everything, humiliated mom because she wasn’t passing the food fast enough. Some family dinner after got mom and Ellen and I in tears he would rise and go and sit in his chair.

The last thing dad would say was let me know when pie is served! The food was always the best.Dad was always a jerk.

I’d give anything to do it all again tears and all. They all left me.Dad in 2023,Ellen and mom in 2020. I had not celebrated Thanksgiving since 2014 until this year I ate with a neighbor and friend.
