What’s the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make? Why?
In an instance in October of two fourteen after two and a half years if my half sister Gaslighting our eighty six year old mom. In an instant Diana was standing over mom’s Easy Boy with her finger in mom’s face yelling at the top of her lungs at mom! I had witnessed my younger sister yelling at mom with the same crazed look on her face. Diana screamed’You have no right to have doors that lock! You have nothing of value!’
Mom just wanted to enjoy her last years with her Iowa family, her home, and her cat in her town.
None of these things matter to my half sister. She saw stumbling blocks in her way to ownership of a piece of property that my grand dad Paul John andrew Heike had purchased in the nineteen thirties grandpa called Cub Lake due to the fact the nearest lake to it was called Bear Lake.
Bear Lake is a big part of the Chippawa Flowage in Sawyer County in northern Wisconsin.Cub is situated in the Chipquamigan National Forest. Grand dad had purchased the property in the nineteen thirties for back taxes from an ex wrestler Eddie Fisher.(Not the singer)
The price a small fortune then as now five grand. The property was bear. Except a half mile lake spring fed with three bays.We the Heike’s named them all :Swimming bay,Turtle bay and Muskie bay.
The cabin built in the forties is situated right dab in front of on the hill of Swimming bay.We kids fished off the dock as well as swam there.
The cabin was built during the few years before the bombing of Pearl Harbor in forty one. Most of what my aunt Wava described as a simple hunting cabin was extended when families grew. The Cabin at Shangrala went from simplistic one room for the kitchen, living room, bunkhhouse to more.
There was an allotment of funds and building supplies because wars back then were supported by the people, for the people. Americans went without they didn’t mind much they were supporting the boys on the front!
Wars were fought on two fronts Home and abroad. Generals thought they were in charge, maybe of manuvers on the field of battle much as a chess board. Supplies came from Americans who went without!
When I was a kid there were three docks in front of the cabin.I giant flag pole off one tamarack .Tamaracks were used making docks they’re are a natural choice due to the fact they live in soggy places less likely to rot fast in water.
Grandpa’s flag when he died would fly there.Granda in his youth had been a first sargent in the medical corps in WWI. At twenty-two in Flounders field in France the Medical corps in the trenches amidst bombardment if cannon and in a hail of bullets found falling comrades wounded and in various forms of death and took them out of harms way to the them MASH units.(MASH units were make shift hospitals.)
A First Sargent is a noncom,on the rungs of a commission officer. Mom and dad wed July first nineteen fifty-six in Spencer,Iowa in the Methodist church.Wait what’s that? Great grand dad Rober the Lutheran paster rolling over in his grave.
Funny a magical day was always remembered by our mom as the day her mom forced her to marry dad! Parents should never share repeatedly how marrying their dad was the worst day in their mom’s life. Sad was so proud and he gave his new bride the wedding band his dad had bestowed upon his Yiddish mom’s hand.Too funny for words. Both dad and his dad’s marriage might have pissed of great grandpa Heike oh well!
Eight year old Diana Lee had begged her new step dad my dad to adopt her and dad did . Then they went up to see the folks who did not come to mom and dad’s wedding. My aunt and uncle because Wava was expecting Karen their last child and my grandparents in Shawno Wisconsin.
Mom was literally the center of attention.Diana could not stand that so she took matters into her own hands and planted a toxic seed. Told mom granddad had touched her inappropriately! It was literately like: the Titanic sinking after four days at sea, the American Revolution with the historic shot if a body of people standing up an ocean away to a king saying ‘Hell no we won’t go!‘Defiantly to a king a world away in Britain!
Mom stupidly trusted the bitch of an eight year old spoiled child! Mom,Marian D.Bittinger Heike went upon the spot to her two new sister’s in law and told them they could not allow their perspective child be alone with grandpa ‘He touches them!”
Wava had at that time five children and Gertrude had four. I’m sure they thought mom was beautiful as well as nuts! Mom was beautiful, generous, good hearted never deserved a child from her first husband, the wife beating son of a bitch!
Bingo Bammo I was back in October twi fourteen and Diana’s hand was in mom’s face.I just stood there like a lox. I should have grabbed the whoring bitch by her hair pulled her out of the room.Slit her throat with my pocket knife. We had no snow yet.Got her lifeless body into the truck. Taken it to one of the sink holes I Know of in the county. No one would have ever found mom and my bully. For two years she made mom cry ten times a day conditioning our mom.
Sad had dementia and perished alone in the Good Sam in two twelve. That was when Diana’s annual visits began of abuse in person. I could have saved mom’s life and my sister Ellen’s and mom’s cat and our home
