My dad drank to excess,
During WWII,just eighteen,
Dad was in Hiroshima,Japan,after the bombing
His dad, my grand dad,
was in France,
The year nineteen seventeen,
Paul John Andrew Heike,
First Sargent,non com,
Medical Corps MOS(grand dad’s job,find and remove comrades from the trenches,alive or dead),
Paul was a baby,
A Wisconsin boy grew up shooting deer,
Born in Prussia,eighteen ninety -six,
Paul’s family came to America in nineteen hundred,
Great granddad was a lutheran minister,
War changes everyone ,
Seeing so much death is unforgettable!
Neither dad nor his dad talked about what they saw or experienced to us their families,
Dad and granddad took their ghost to the grave!
Grandpa nearly beat my dad to death when he was fourteen ,
Dad and friends broke into grandad’s booze,
We their families who lived with these people, we suffered less than they suffered,still suffered,
When I was 14 my dad was going to shoot us all at the lake and then shoot himself I took a load of gun for my dad when I was 14 saved my mom my sister her friend my niece and nephew myself and Dad,
